Singapore Airlines Firms A380 & A350 Orders

Airbus says the carrier firmed its commitment in 2012. It raises the A380's backlog to around 165, after the figure dipped to its lowest point in five years. SIA's A380s will be fitted with Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines.

SIA's agreement also doubles its order for the A350 following its earlier agreement to take 20 -900s. The A350 is only available with Trent XWB powerplants.

Airbus says the deal brings overall A380 orders to 262, from 20 customers, and A350 orders to 582 from 34 customers.

Singapore Airlines has become the second-largest customer of the A380. It has 19 in service. "This second repeat order from one of the largest A380 operators today is a great endorsement," says Airbus chief operating officer for customers John Leahy.
