City Hall Engage Public On Project

CITY Hall says it will engage the public on the Warisan Merdeka project. Mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib said City Hall had taken the necessary steps to ensure a smooth implementation of the project.

This includes taking the traffic management issues and heritage buildings in the area into consideration.

"The public can rest assured that we have taken the necessary measures and have taken into consideration the buildings in the area, including the preservation of Stadium Merdeka.

"We are also focusing on matters pertaining to the land.

"However, as far as the project is concerned, it has been approved by the government (in 2010)," he said after the launch of 60+ Earth Hour at City Hall yesterday.

The proposed development of Warisan Merdeka is expected to cost RM5 billion.

It would be implemented in three phases over 10 years.

The project starts with the 118-storey tower which will be located at Taman Merdeka Negara. It is scheduled to be completed in 2015.

The development site is located near Stadium Negara and Stadium Merdeka.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had announced the project in his 2010 Budget speech.
