Water Theme Park At Legoland Opens Oct 21

Legoland Malaysia general manager Siegfried Boerst told a Press conference here today that the four-hectare water themed park can accommodate up to 1,000 visitors at one time when it opens on Oct 21.

The water park, which is currently 70 per cent completed, will compliment the RM700 million theme park which occupies 30ha in Iskandar Malaysia. Boerst said they expect an increase in the number of visitors to Legoland Malaysia but declined to reveal the company's target.

"At this point of time, we are unable to decide on the number of visitors to the water park. We would like to have as many visitors as possible and sell as many tickets as possible, but we want guests to have a safe and pleasant experience at Legoland.

"We will only know the ideal number of visitors after the park starts operations as we don't want people to come and then leave feeling unhappy due to overcrowding," he said.

"The water park will be different from other parks of a similar nature because we will have a "build-a-raft river", which is a one-of-a-kind concept where children can customise their own raft made from soft LEGO bricks before letting their raft float down a river.

"The park is also designed for families with children between the ages of two and 12," he said, adding that this will be the company's flagship water park with more than 20 slides and over 70 LEGO models.

Following the opening of the water park, will be two restaurants and a seven-storey hotel with 249 rooms in 2014. It will also have private cabanas for rent and a retail store.

On the number of visitors that visit Legoland since it opened on Sept 15, Boerst said the number has far surpassed the company's target of one million visitors.

Boerst also said that since the beginning of the year till June, about 25 per cent of the visitors were foreigners.

Starting next month, a limited number of the premium annual passes will go on sale. The premium annual passes, allowing unlimited visits for 12 months, are priced at RM395 and is valid for both the new water park and the theme park while the annual passes are priced at RM275 for adults and RM210 for children.

"Current annual pass holders can upgrade their passes to premium passes, or the public can also buy the Combo Day Tickets in advance online that will allow them entry into both parks," he said.
