Twentieth Century Fox Theme Park Announced

Another mega entertainment company jumped into the theme park business Tuesday when Twentieth Century Fox broke ground on a 25-acre theme park in Malaysia.

The project, to be called Twentieth Century Fox World, was unveiled in July but new details emerged Tuesday as executives from Twentieth Century Fox and developers of the project began construction in Malaysia. The park is expected to open in 2016.

Twentieth Century Fox World will replace a previous theme park that closed in September next to Genting Highlands, otherwise known as Resorts World Genting.

The new theme park, estimated to cost more than $300 million, will feature more than 25 rides and attractions with characters and story lines from Twentieth Century Fox's films, including "Ice Age," "Rio," "Night at the Museum" and "Alien vs Predator," according to Genting officials.

“The opening of the first Twentieth Century Fox World theme park at Resorts World Genting takes our rich history of storytelling to a whole new level and will provide an exceptional entertainment experience,” said Jeffrey Godsick, President of Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products.”

Twentieth Century Fox is following the lead of other entertainment giants that have ventured abroad to operate theme parks.

Disney operates theme parks in Japan, France and Hong Kong with a new park scheduled to open in Shanghai in 2015. Universal Studios also runs a theme park in Japan.
