American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society is celebrating the holidays with a special partnership.
"I have cancer. The cancer doesn't have me. Worrying about it is not going to change it," said breast cancer survivor Karen Gaskins.
Karen Gaskins says the American Cancer Society is easing some of her worries.
"I can't say more than it is wonderful," said Gaskins.
Winn Dixie and the Hope lodge served dinner to about fifty cancer survivors and their families tonight.
The grocery chain's district manager says the partnership is very humbling.
"With the busy time of the year, everyone's into gift giving and they're into buying their food and we're very busy ourselves. We're blessed with those sales. When you come down to the Hope lodge and you spend time and talk to folks who are going through in their lives a little something different, it is very humbling and makes you think about what's really important, hold your family a little closer and spend a little more time at home when you should and maybe the things back at work aren't as important as we thought they were when we got here today," says Winn Dixie district manager Todd Greene.
Greene says he wants to expand the partnership with the hope lodge to do events once a month.
